FORMULA 3 2010 - Il Campionato Italiano | The Italian Championship - page 5

L
a Formula 3 è un po’come il
rock&roll di Neil Young: non
potrà mai morire. Hanno provato
in molti a imitarla e limitarla, a
inventarsi categorie alternative.
Il risultato, sotto gli occhi di tutti,
è che la Formula 3 è rimasta e
tutte le altre sono scomparse nel
regno dei dimenticati o poste in
un limbo nel quale cercano una
difficile sopravvivenza. Definirla
non è semplice: non è una for-
mula addestrativa, nel senso
che per calarsi nell’abitacolo di
una di queste monoposto è ne-
cessario possedere una certa
esperienza e sicure qualità. Allo
stesso tempo, non è un approdo,
piuttosto un passaggio obbliga-
to. E’ l’università dalla quale si
esce o laureati o destinati a una
carriera dissolta nell’anonimato.
Chi vince in questa categoria ha
la certezza di potere aspirare a
traguardi importanti. Chi per-
de a rassegnarsi e a vedere le
competizioni come un semplice
e divertente hobby. La Formula
3 è sfida basata sui particolari,
sulle sottigliezze, sulla precisio-
ne di guida e messa a punto.
Basta una regolazione sbaglia-
ta per essere estromessi senza
accorgersene dal gioco della
vittoria; basta una guida troppo
aggressiva per perdere mille-
simi in uscita di curva. Tranne
rarissime eccezioni tutti coloro
che hanno conquistato campio-
nati e podi nella terza formula
sono arrivati sul tetto del mondo
ed è del tutto inutile stilare un
elenco di chi dalla Formula 3 si
è poi laureato campione iridato:
di fatto i migliori di ogni epoca.
Li ritroviamo nel professionismo
esasperato, ognuno con il pro-
prio bagaglio tecnico e di stile,
accomunati da una militanza
comune che li ha resi migliori,
più attenti, più pragmatici nelle
valutazioni, in una parola piloti
completi. Dalla ormai preistori-
ca Formula 500 britannica della
F
ormula 3 is something like
the rock&roll of Neil Young:
it will never die. Many have
tried to imitate it and to bound
it too, to invent alternative cate-
gories. The result, in the sight of
all, is that the Formula 3 has re-
mained and all the others have
disappeared into the kingdom of
the forgotten or placed in a lim-
bo in which they attempt a dif-
ficult survival. It’s not simple to
define it: it is not a formula for
training, meaning that in order
to get in the cockpit of one of the-
se single-seaters, it’s necessary
to have either experiences and
reliable qualities. At the same
time, it’s not a landingplace, but
an only course. It’s the Universi-
ty from which you leave or gra-
duated or destined to a career
dissolved into anonymity. Who
wins in this category has the
certainty of being able to aspi-
re to important goals. Who loses
to resign themselves and to see
the competitions as a simple and
fun hobby. The Formula 3 is a
challenge based on the details,
the subtleties, precision on dri-
ving and tuning. Just a wrong
adjustment to be ousted from
the game of the victory without
knowing; just a too aggressive
driving to lose thousandths out
of corners. Excluding very rare
exceptions all those who have
won championships and po-
dium finishes in Formula 3 have
come on top of the world and it
is pointless to draw up a list of
those who became world cham-
pion coming from Formula 3: de-
finitely the best ones of all time.
We find them in the exasperated
professionalism, each with their
own technical skills and sty-
le, sharing a common militan-
cy that has made them better,
more attentive, more pragmatic
in the evaluations, in a single
word an all-round driver. Since
